Before choosing a famous viewpoint, ask yourself what you want the pictures to feel like. Maybe it is a quiet morning at your villa, a walk through a green valley, or the easy energy of a beach at sunset. Your answer will make the other decisions simpler.

Where should you have a photoshoot in Bali?
There is no single best location for everyone. A place that is convenient and meaningful to you can work better than spending much of your session travelling to a popular landmark. Think about the setting, the journey there, access, crowds, and how the light changes during the day.
Your villa
A villa session can feel especially personal. You can begin slowly, use the spaces you have already made your own, and move between indoor details and the outdoor view. Bamboo villas offer interesting shapes and textures, but even a simple balcony or poolside can be enough.

Sidemen and East Bali
Sidemen suits people who like a quieter pace, green landscapes, and photographs with a strong sense of place. It works beautifully for couples, honeymoon sessions, and solo portraits. I am based in Karangasem, and my Sidemen photography guide shows what a session there can feel like.
Ubud, the coast, and beyond
Ubud offers tropical greenery and many different kinds of settings. A beach can give you movement, open space, and changing colour late in the day. Southern cliff locations have a very different scale. We can choose a setting around your itinerary rather than asking you to reshape your holiday around a photograph.

What time of day works best?
Early morning often gives us softer light, cooler air, and quieter surroundings. Late afternoon can also be beautiful, especially near the coast. The best time still depends on the direction your villa faces, the location, and the kind of images you want.
Clouds are not a failed photoshoot. Soft, even light can be lovely for portraits. If heavy rain affects access or makes the planned setting impractical, we can discuss the available options for the day. I would rather plan around the real conditions than promise the same look in every season and every location.
How long should your session be?
One hour works well when we stay in one place and focus on a couple, family, solo, or villa story. Two hours gives us time to settle in, change an outfit, explore a nearby second setting, or combine camera and drone coverage where conditions allow. A longer session makes sense for several locations or a more involved creative project.
More time is useful when you need more variety. It is not a requirement for natural photographs.
What should you wear?
Start with clothes that let you move comfortably and feel like yourself. Soft neutrals, earthy colours, and gentle tones often sit well beside Bali’s greenery, stone, and warm wood. If you are photographing several people, aim for colours that work together without dressing everyone identically.
Large logos and busy patterns can draw attention away from faces. Flowing fabric can add movement, but it is only a good choice if you enjoy wearing it. Bring comfortable shoes if the location involves paths, sand, or uneven ground. For a family session, an extra change of clothes for young children can make the day easier.
Do you need to know how to pose?
No. Most people tell me they feel awkward at first. We can begin with something simple: walk together, sit where you would naturally pause, talk, or take in the view. I will help with where to stand and how to use the light, but you do not need to perform for the camera. A little direction and room to be yourselves usually work better than repeating the same pose over and over.
Should you add drone photography?
Ground photographs are often best for expressions and small interactions. A drone can reveal the landscape around you, the shape of a bamboo villa, or the scale of a coastline. It is most useful when that wider view adds something to the story. Drone coverage depends on the package, local restrictions, weather, and safe flying conditions, so we will confirm it for your chosen location.

How to choose a photographer in Bali
Look beyond one striking photograph. Browse a complete session if you can: are the colours consistent, do the people look comfortable, and does the photographer handle both wide scenes and close moments well? Choose work that resembles the feeling you want to bring home.
It also helps to ask how the photographer guides people, what is included, when you will receive the edited files, and whether travel to your location changes the price. Those details make the experience easier to plan and prevent surprises later.
